Nick O'NeilL
Before joining LemBix Nick had stops working in logistics and the drosophila nerve cord.
An interesting combination but a perfect fit for the LemBix lab.
Nick has been working to make the LemBix lab's behavioral assays match the quality and reproducibility of our high content screening assays.

The Single Pellet Retrieval Task (SPRT) is a useful assay for assessing forelimb behavior after an injury to the nervous system. However, when a success/fail binary outcome measure is used to determine whether functional recovery has occurred, any information about the attempt other than whether the pellet was retrieved is discarded. Using that metric, both of the attempts below are indistinguishable and would be counted in the same category "successes".
By visualizing the trajectory of the Mouse's digits, a difference in movement capability between pre-injury (Top) and post-injury (Bottom) becomes apparent. A compensatory motor pattern has been developed that allows the animal to succeed in spite of persistent motor deficits.
